Release Judge Cannon’s Order and Mr. Smith’s Report

In June 2023, Donald Trump faced a grand jury indictment in the Southern District of Florida under the Espionage Act. The charges related to concealing classified documents taken from the White House. However, despite the serious allegations, Trump has not been held accountable through public trial.

The case against Trump was dropped after his 2024 presidential victory. The Justice Department adhered to a policy preventing the prosecution of sitting presidents. Actions taken by Judge Aileen Cannon have further complicated transparency. Her order bars the department from releasing its investigative report on Trump.

This obstruction should be lifted. It’s vital that Congress and the public have full access to information. While presidents may be shielded from criminal prosecution, accountability mechanisms must still operate efficiently.

The situation escalated when the National Archives discovered classified records in Trump’s possession in early 2022. This prompted the Justice Department’s investigation. Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Jack Smith as special counsel, ensuring political independence. The investigation led to charges not only for Trump but also for his valet, Waltine Nauta, and property manager, Carlos De Oliveira.

If convicted, Trump’s associates faced likely prison terms. Trump himself risked enduring life imprisonment. Despite legal challenges, the public deserves transparency and oversight in governmental processes.
