Graham Platner, a prominent Democratic candidate for the Senate in Maine, is under increased scrutiny following recent reports of sending inappropriate messages to women outside his marriage. He visited Washington to meet with Senate Democrats but encountered a mixed response.
The Democratic caucus was invited to meet with Platner. However, only about six senators attended. Senator Chuck Schumer, the minority leader, had a private 30-minute meeting with Platner. Previously, Schumer endorsed Platner’s primary opponent, who suspended her campaign last month.
During a press briefing, Schumer avoided directly addressing questions about Platner’s recent controversies. Reports about Platner have raised concerns among some Democrats regarding potential political vulnerabilities.
Schumer reiterated his focus on defeating the incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins. He emphasized the importance of securing a Democratic victory in the Senate but remained non-committal about Platner’s candidacy.
