Caitlin Clark is making an impressive impact in her third WNBA season with the Indiana Fever. Last year, a severe groin injury limited her to just 13 games. Now, she is starting strong, although she manages a persistent back issue. This has required her to make several adjustments during games, and it caused her to miss Indiana’s fourth game against the Portland Fire unexpectedly.
Despite these challenges, both Clark and head coach Stephanie White minimize the severity, seeing it as manageable. Clark spoke about her physical and mental journey in handling injuries. She shared insights on how she is learning to listen to her body: “I don’t think it necessarily started at a certain point. I think it’s just been over the course of the last year when I’ve kind of been understanding my body more,” Clark said. “Before that, it was always like, ‘I’m fine, go play, go play, go play,’ and maybe sometimes I was too hyperaware of certain things … but continuing to work through that and just finding the balance.”
Clark’s performance remains unaffected despite these issues. Currently, she averages 23.8 points, 9.0 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. She is shooting 43.2% from the field, 34.8% from three-point range, and an impressive 96.4% from the free-throw line.
