The U.S. Treasury Department took a decisive step on Tuesday by imposing sanctions on over two dozen Iranian airlines and their associated service providers. This action aims to isolate Tehran from the global economy. Such measures are a crucial part of the ongoing initiative called ‘Operation Economic Outcast.’
The main objective of these sanctions is to compel Iran to engage in negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict. The United States, in collaboration with Israel, initiated this conflict in late February. By throttling Iran’s economic lifelines, U.S. officials are intensifying efforts to bring about diplomatic discussions for peace.
Last week, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent addressed the matter in a speech delivered in Asheville, North Carolina. He emphasized the strategic importance of these sanctions in pressuring Iran to reconsider its stance and return to the negotiating table to end the war.
