President Donald Trump has proposed an intriguing idea: a reunion of former presidents at the White House to watch a football game. During Friday’s episode of the podcast Storytime with the Second Lady, Trump shared this notion while discussing a page showing a president hosting a Super Bowl viewing at the White House.
Trump told second lady Usha Vance, “Maybe I should invite Barack Hussein Obama, Joe Biden, with the Bushes – or Bush. Maybe I should invite some of those people to watch a football game together. Wouldn’t that be a nice story? The press would go wild.”
The second lady agreed, saying, “A president reunion? That would be fun!”
The podcast, where Vance, the wife of Vice President JD Vance, interviews guests who narrate books to children on YouTube, has featured personalities like race car driver Danica Patrick and the Artemis II astronauts.
Trump himself recently appeared on the podcast to narrate Presidents Play!
published by the White House Historical Association. The book depicts the leisure activities of past American presidents. Instead of reading the text, Trump offered humorous commentary, such as remarks on William Howard Taft, who was known for attending baseball games and enjoying hot dogs.
On Taft, Trump commented, “He was a large man, very large. And he loved baseball. He’d go to baseball games, loved the hot dogs at the baseball games.” Trump humorously mentioned Taft’s record as the heaviest president, saying, “And I have to be careful ’cause I don’t want to supersede his record. And a thing like that would be possible if I allowed it to happen.”
Trump also expressed affection for former President Bill Clinton. Showing Clinton jogging on a track built during his presidency, Trump complimented him, saying, “That’s nice. I didn’t even know that until recently, but he had a track built at the White House. I don’t think I’ll ever do that. I don’t see myself doing that. I don’t know. But he actually was a nice guy. I like Bill Clinton a lot. I still do.”
Most recently, Trump’s living predecessors, including George W. Bush, Clinton, and Biden, gathered at the opening of Obama’s presidential center. Notably, Trump was not invited, given the critical exchanges between him and Obama.
In closing remarks, Trump mused that former President Obama would make for a fun guest at such a White House gathering.
