During a game against the Baltimore Orioles, New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. turned a routine fielding error into an embarrassing moment by blaming the umpire. In the scoreless second inning at Camden Yards, with runners on first and second, pitcher Carlos Rodon delivered a perfect pitch that resulted in a ground ball from Christian Franklin aimed at Chisholm. The play should have ended the inning with a double play.
Instead, Chisholm mishandled the ball, allowing it to bounce off his glove and load the bases. He quickly pointed to second-base umpire Ryan Additon as the cause of the error. Replay footage showed Additon correctly positioned, disproving Chisholm’s claim and highlighting the infielder’s mistake.
Rodon rescued Chisholm by striking out two Orioles batters, Carlos Narvaez and Jackson Holliday, leaving the bases loaded and enabling the Yankees to secure a 3-1 victory. Chisholm’s reaction adds to a disappointing 2026 season, where he carried a .216 batting average into Tuesday’s game, facing benching over the weekend.
Chisholm candidly acknowledged his struggles earlier, admitting, “I’ve sucked all season. The numbers speak for themselves.” His performance drew criticism from teammate Anthony Rizzo following an ejection during a Fenway Park series.
Fortunately for Chisholm, Rodon’s pitching averted any impact on the scoreboard. Jazz Chisholm Jr., along with Trent Grisham and Ryan McMahon, left the field in their match against the Toronto Blue Jays during a recent game.
