Tom Cruise is set to showcase a significant transformation in his latest role. Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for Alejandro Iñárritu’s upcoming film, Digger. This film presents Cruise, at 64, in a unique role that he hasn’t portrayed in years.
Cruise’s Role in ‘Digger’
In Digger, Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, an eccentric oil magnate. His decisions place the world at risk of a major catastrophe, pushing him on an unusual mission to save humanity. According to the film’s synopsis, Digger aims to establish himself as a hero to humanity before his actions lead to disaster.
The trailer begins with a scene where Digger anxiously worries about his sick cat. He then lashes out at an employee who proposes halting a significant company project. This venture could potentially cause an $18 trillion disaster, laying the groundwork for the film’s intense plot.
Cruise’s Unrecognizable Appearance
In the newly released footage, Cruise looks almost unrecognizable, with a substantially different appearance as the unpredictable billionaire. Fans on social media have taken note of this striking change.
“Respect for the glow down king,” wrote one user. “DIGGER looks hilarious already.”
“Can’t get over the way you look,” commented another. “Les Grossman vibe, I bet you had fun making this film, you are so amazing!”
Challenges and Creativity
Digger marks Cruise’s first leading role outside his famous franchises such as Top Gun and Mission: Impossible in recent years. Directed by Oscar-winning Alejandro G. Iñárritu, known for Birdman and The Revenant, the film will debut on October 2nd.
Cruise introduced the trailer at a Q&A event in Los Angeles, praising the project and his partnership with Iñárritu. “I have never faced a challenge like this, nor has Alejandro,” Cruise said. “And when you see this film, it’s completely original.”
Star-Studded Cast and Promotion
The film features an ensemble cast including Jesse Plemons, Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Sophie Wilde, Emma D’Arcy, Michael Stuhlbarg, and John Goodman.
Prior to the trailer’s release, Cruise expanded his online presence by joining TikTok to promote Digger. He quickly garnered over 1.4 million followers.
