Matthew and Brady Tkachuk are set to join forces as teammates with the Florida Panthers. A significant trade was finalized on Sunday night, with the Panthers acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators. In exchange, Florida will send four draft picks to Ottawa, including the No. 9 pick and Tampa Bay’s first-round pick from this year’s draft, along with a second-round pick in 2027 and a top-10 protected first-round pick in 2029.
This move enhances Florida’s forward lineup without losing any of last season’s leading scorers.
Brady Tkachuk: A Proven Leader
The addition of Brady Tkachuk, described by Panthers hockey operations president and general manager Bill Zito, as “a dynamic competitor and one of the most physical and relentless forwards in the league,” boosts the team’s pursuit of another championship. Brady has been with the Senators for his entire eight-year NHL career and now has the opportunity to play alongside his brother Matthew, with whom he shares a history of success in USA Hockey.
“This was not a decision we took lightly, but ultimately we did what we felt was best for the long-term future of our hockey club,” said Senators general manager Steve Staios regarding the trade.
Tkachuk Family Ties
The Tkachuk brothers have not only excelled in club hockey but also in international play, having won silver at the 4 Nations Face-Off in 2025 and gold at the Milan Cortina Olympics. Their parents, including NHL legend Keith Tkachuk, frequently attend Panthers games, supporting the strong family relationship with Florida.
Brady’s leadership in Ottawa was evident; he was the captain for five seasons and led in numerous stats, including goals, points, and hits. His departure provides Ottawa with cap space and draft capital, allowing for roster improvement.
Florida’s Future Prospects
Florida now boasts several locked-in players, with Brady joining a roster aiming for further Stanley Cup success. With key players like Aleksander Barkov and Aaron Ekblad under contract, Brady has a genuine chance to contribute to future victories.
