A clash erupted between supporters of ‘Save Girls Sports’ and pro-LGBTQ activists outside a championship track meet in California. The event saw the involvement of multiple police officers to maintain order.
The confrontation occurred during a press conference organized by local LGBTQ advocacy groups, Pride at the Pier and Rainbow Families Action. The event was held outside the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state championship in Clovis and focused on supporting trans athlete AB Hernandez, who aimed to win titles in three girls’ jumping events.
Nereyda Hernandez, AB Hernandez’s mother, joined other activists to speak in favor of the athlete at the event.
Near the press conference’s conclusion, ‘Save Girls Sports’ activists arrived, leading to a heated verbal exchange with LGBTQ supporters. While Clovis Police Department vehicles were on the scene and officers monitored the situation, there was no direct police intervention as the confrontation eventually faded on its own. The police department chose not to comment to Fox News Digital about the incident.
Footage from the event shows a tense atmosphere where an LGBTQ protester allegedly attacked a conservative individual amid the trans athlete controversy.
Beth Bourne, a leading ‘Save Girls Sports’ activist, spoke to Fox News Digital after the protest. She expressed her viewpoint that the situation was unfair to both the female athletes and AB Hernandez, as she believes in acknowledging biological realities.
Conversely, pro-LGBTQ activist Daisy Gardner expressed hope that Bourne would gain understanding and find healing within her family.
Controversy surrounding Hernandez’s participation in the CIF state finals is not new. Last year’s finals were also marked by opposing protests leading to the arrest of a pro-transgender activist after an altercation with a ‘Save Girls Sports’ supporter.
