The San Francisco 49ers are grappling with an increasing number of injuries during their training camp. Notable players such as running back Isaa Guerendo, tight end George Kittle, and defensive end Mykel Williams are currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. As of now, 21 players did not participate in practice on Sunday, or they left the session early due to injuries.
Here’s the complete list of affected players:
- Kurtis Rourke, QB (ribs)

- Jordan James, RB (ribs)
- Kaelon Black, RB (adductor)
- Kyle Juszczyk, FB (finger)
- Christian Kirk, WR (calf)
- Demarcus Robinson, WR
- Vederian Lowe, OT (ankle)
- Brett Toth, OG (concussion)
- Dominick Puni, OG (concussion)

- Titus Leo, DE
- CJ West, DT
- Gracen Halton, DT (ankle)
- Luke Gifford, LB (hamstring)
- Nate Hobbs, CB (groin)
- Malik Mustapha, S (hamstring)
The 49ers are hopeful that many of these players will recover in time for their Week 1 game against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia. There is also optimism about the return of George Kittle, one of the team’s key players. Kittle is diligently working his way back from an Achilles injury sustained during the playoffs. He may be ready to join his teammates for the season opener.
“I have a chance [to play],” Kittle shared with reporters on Sunday. “We’re running around a lot, hitting top speeds — hopefully we’re back in pads again practicing sooner rather than later. Just trying to check the boxes and not be a dumb [expletive].”
When healthy, Kittle is among the league’s elite tight ends. Last season, injuries restricted him to only 11 games. During these games, he made 57 receptions, covering 628 yards and scoring seven touchdowns. Prior to last season, he had played in at least 14 games in seven of the past eight seasons.
Given Kittle’s pivotal role in the team’s offense, neither he nor the team is likely to hasten his return without ensuring full recovery. His health is central to the 49ers’ chances of success in the coming season.
