The 2026 season is crucial for South Carolina’s head coach Shane Beamer and quarterback LaNorris Sellers. Following a disappointing 4-8 finish in 2025, Beamer is under pressure to deliver better results. Sellers is viewed as a significant prospect for the 2027 NFL Draft, with performance this fall determining his draft position, potentially ranging from Day 1 to Day 3.
South Carolina recently announced setbacks involving two key wide receivers, adding challenges for Sellers and Beamer. As per Chris Clark of On3, Jayden Sellers, LaNorris’ brother, and Jayden Gibson will miss the entire 2026 season due to injuries. This development impacts the team’s plans significantly.
“I am extremely disappointed for both of these young men,” Beamer said. “I know how hard each of them has worked over the spring and summer in getting ready for 2026 to help our team. I have full confidence they will both overcome the adversity they’re facing, and we will help them in whatever way we can throughout the rehab process moving forward.”
Jayden Sellers had 22 receptions for 337 yards and one touchdown in the 2025 season. He gained attention with a strong performance against Coastal Carolina on November 22, where he caught four passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. In the season finale against Clemson on November 29, Sellers added five catches for 67 yards.
Jayden Gibson, standing six-foot-five and weighing 205 pounds, is a senior from Apopka, Florida. He recorded 14 receptions for 375 yards and five touchdowns for Oklahoma in 2023. Gibson had a notable game against BYU on November 18, tallying 14 catches for 375 yards and a touchdown. After missing the entire 2024 season due to injury, he did not catch a pass in 2025.
The Gamecocks now rely on Nitro Tuggle, Mazeo Bennett Jr., and Nyck Harbor to step up. Despite promising talent, South Carolina’s depth at wide receiver is under stress with the absence of Jayden Sellers and Gibson.
