Melania Trump Announces $2 Million Scholarship Initiative for Foster Youth

First Lady Melania Trump revealed a significant scholarship initiative valued at $2 million, aimed at supporting individuals transitioning from foster care on Thursday. This effort, part of her Fostering the Future initiative, is made possible through a strategic partnership with Fox Corporation and IndyCar.

Fox Corporation and IndyCar are jointly funding the initiative, each contributing $1 million. The financial assistance will specifically support higher education scholarships at Indiana University and Purdue University for former foster care youths.

The announcement took place at the White House before the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., an event scheduled for this weekend. This highlights the synergy between education and sports.

First Lady Melania Trump expressed, “The greatest achievement America can make is in our children,” during the event. Present at the announcement were President Donald Trump, FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks, Penske Corporation Chairman Roger Penske, IndyCar President Doug Boles, Indiana University President Dr. Pamela Whitten, Purdue University Vice Provost Cherise Hall, IndyCar Series drivers, and young people from foster care backgrounds.

Eric Shanks, hailing from Indiana and an Indiana University alumnus, along with Doug Boles, presented the first lady with checks at the White House event. Shanks emphasized the commitment, noting, “Investing in the future of America takes on a new meaning today. We’re thrilled to partner with First Lady Melania Trump and her Fostering the Future initiative to offer scholarships at these universities, empowering extraordinary students for bright futures.”

Members of the FOX Sports IndyCar broadcast team, including Jamie Little, Will Buxton, James Hinchcliffe, and Kevin Lee, attended the gathering. A branded car with “Be Best” and Fostering the Future logos was exhibited.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix will be the first auto race held on the National Mall, celebrating the 250th anniversary since America’s founding. It will be broadcast live on FS1 and FS2 on Saturday and FOX on Sunday, with streaming on FOX One. Each race car will display decals supporting foster youth.

Melania Trump established Fostering the Future in 2021 to enhance college access, housing support, and transition resources for youth aging out of foster care. Nationally, under 3% of former foster youths complete a college degree. The first lady believes these funds will fill an essential gap.
