The NFL training camps are in full swing as teams intensify their on-field drills and practices during the summer months. Football fans have a reason to celebrate with the preseason is underway, paving the way for teams to prepare for their upcoming exhibition games. As the regular season nears its start on September 9, key offseason storylines are under review for each of the league’s 32 teams.
We’ve already explored significant position battles, potential advantages for rookie players, and assessed players most at risk of being cut. Furthermore, rankings have been established for head coaches, quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers by division. In this phase, attention is turning to evaluating the tight end groups in each division, beginning with the AFC South.
Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts lead the pack with an impressive lineup featuring Tyler Warren, Will Mallory, Mo Alie-Cox, and Drew Ogletree. Warren, selected as the 14th overall pick in the 2025 draft, made an immediate impact, amassing 76 catches, 817 yards, and four touchdowns in his rookie season. His performance places him among the top young tight ends in the NFL, drawing comparisons to Dallas Clark in Daniel Jones’ era. Mallory, Alie-Cox, and Ogletree contribute as reliable depth options, each playing distinct roles.
Houston Texans
The Houston Texans showcase Dalton Schultz, Cade Stover, and Brevin Jordan in their tight end room. Schultz has consistently performed since 2020, delivering over 53 catches and 530 yards annually. Coming off a career-high 82 catches and 777 yards last year, his performance is expected to remain steady in 2026. Stover provides solid backup capabilities with approximately 15 catches and 120 yards each season. Despite recent injury setbacks, Brevin Jordan, if healthy, has the potential to be a valuable third option.
Tennessee Titans
With Chig Okonkwo now in Washington, the Tennessee Titans rely on Gunnar Helm as their primary tight end in 2026. Helm’s previous year outperformed Okonkwo in catches (44 to 41), leading to 357 yards and two scores. Daniel Bellinger, joining from the Giants, adds strength as a supportive backup. His career statistics reflect 88 receptions, 934 yards, and four touchdowns over four years, indicating a promising partnership with Helm.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jacksonville Jaguars feature Brenton Strange, Nate Boerkircher, and Tanner Koziol in their lineup. Strange delivered a noteworthy performance in 2025, recording 46 receptions, 540 yards, and three touchdowns, although he doesn’t match the impact of Evan Engram’s presence. Given the depth in wide receiver talent within the Jags, substantial tight end statistics are not necessary. Jacksonville strategically acquired Boerkircher and Koziol during the 2026 NFL draft, intending to utilize them in varied tight end formations.
