Jayden Williams, the youngest mayor in Georgia’s history, was ousted from office 10 months into his term. Stockbridge City Council removed him following allegations of improper use of city funds and inappropriate communications with an 18-year-old student.
Financial Misconduct Allegations
Williams, who took office in January, reportedly misused over $4,000 in city funds. The expenses included dining, clothing, haircuts, and entertainment. He allegedly spent $2,600 on fuel and used a city vehicle for personal activities.
The City of Stockbridge confirmed the action: “The Mayor has been removed from office.”
City staff flagged suspicious transactions, prompting management and legal team intervention. Williams testified he unintentionally used city funds. He claimed confusion due to the similarity of city-issued and personal cards, leading him to repay the amount.
Inappropriate Communications Accusations
In addition, Williams faced accusations related to exchanging explicit content with an 18-year-old male student. Although not illegal under Georgia law, the situation raised ethical questions. The student was part of a city-associated mentorship initiative.
The police dealt with this matter administratively. Williams stated that his interaction with the student started before he assumed office. He emphasized the student’s age, clarifying that they were both adults during the exchanges.
Williams had risen to office with a history-setting campaign, juggling his political role with studies at Clark Atlanta University. Nevertheless, the allegations led to a swift removal, curbing his brief tenure in Stockbridge.
