Angel Reese’s Impactful Start with Atlanta Dream

Angel Reese had a notable debut with her new team, the Atlanta Dream, during a Commissioner’s Cup game against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever. Though Atlanta boasted a superior record, Clark and the Fever secured an 83-71 victory.

Despite the focus on Clark, Reese’s significant contributions to the WNBA are undeniable. In Thursday’s game, she scored her sixth double-double in nine games, with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.

Reese’s tenure with the Dream has been impressive, marking her as the fastest in franchise history to reach 100 points and 100 rebounds within her first nine games. ESPN Insights highlighted this achievement in a social media post.

Throughout her career, Reese surpassed 1,000 points and is approaching 1,000 rebounds this season. Currently, she leads the league with an average of 11.3 rebounds per game, having achieved a season-high of 16 rebounds against the Dallas Wings.

Reese is known for her potential in achieving 20-rebound games, demonstrated multiple times with the Chicago Sky. Her career high of 22 rebounds was set in August 2024 against the Las Vegas Aces.

Her time with Chicago ended tumultuously last season after controversial remarks about the team and teammates, resulting in suspension and subsequent trade to Atlanta. The Dream has proven a fitting new beginning for Reese, with the team holding the Eastern Conference’s top record at 6-3.

The Atlanta Dream will compete against the Washington Mystics at 6 p.m. ET on Saturday.
