Graham Platner Addresses Personal History and Allegations

Graham Platner, the Democratic candidate for Senate from Maine, faced public scrutiny after a report by The New York Times regarding his treatment of women he had dated. In a recent interview, Platner acknowledged past behavior he characterized as acting improperly following his military service.

During his appearance on the show ‘All In With Chris Hayes,’ Platner affirmed he will accept responsibility for aspects of his personal past. He described a pattern of self-medication with alcohol and admitted his behavior was not exemplary. Despite allegations, Platner firmly denied physically harming a girlfriend, stating such claims are false.

Platner emphasized that the period following his return from combat was dark for him, but he has been transparent about this during his campaign. He has no intention of withdrawing from the race in Maine, a critical battleground for Democrats aiming to reclaim the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections.

Earlier reports by The Times included statements from Lyndsey Fifield, a woman who dated Platner from 2013 to 2015. Fifield alleged that Platner frequently grabbed her by the shoulders and once used force to confine her to a bedroom until she calmed down, though she confirmed he never struck her.
