Abbey Farms Pumpkin Daze: A Multi-Year Family Tradition

John Deknatel from North Aurora and his three-year-old daughter, Jaina, revisited Abbey Farms in Aurora on Friday morning. They wanted to relive a memorable experience from the previous year. John shared, “We attended the pumpkin event last year, and Jaina had a great time on the slide and visiting the pumpkin patch, so we came back.” The farm’s festival is a popular family attraction, offering activities unavailable in the immediate area.

As Halloween approaches, Abbey Farms in Aurora draws families and school groups to enjoy a variety of fall and holiday activities. Their renowned Abbey Farms Pumpkin Daze runs until November 1st. Now in its 17th year, the festival continues to attract thousands of visitors on sunny weekends. Associate Director Phil Nork noted, “Despite some rain last month when we opened, our weekends have been packed with visitors. Last weekend alone, over 5,000 people visited the farm.” The festival has endured for nearly two decades due to its community appeal and the tradition it fosters among returning visitors.

Nork added, “Visitors return yearly, sharing stories as they watch their kids grow. Our beer tent and live music on weekends, along with school groups during the week, enhance the experience.” The festival features popular attractions like an 8-acre corn maze, a giant jumping pillow area, and air-powered corn cob cannons. Danica Luken from Aurora, an employee at Abbey Farms, manages the unique cannon station. She remarked, “Kids find these cannons exciting due to their loud boom and enjoy aiming at tractor tire targets. We use a lot of corn over the weekends.”

Parents and children gathered on Friday to enjoy the sunny weather and mild temperatures. Sue Duffy from North Aurora visited with her daughter and niece for the first time. She commented, “These events attract people of all ages. Friends of mine attend with their adult children, and it’s still enjoyable. My favorite part is the candy.” Emma Garcia, Duffy’s daughter from Michigan, was informed of the farm’s activities and planned to enjoy donuts and exhaust her energy. Her daughter, Esperanza Garcia, 8, shared excitement for candy and pumpkin carving as a Halloween tradition.

John Deknatel and Jaina were among hundreds of attendees at Abbey Farms on Friday. Katarina Grapsas from Naperville spoke of her family’s tradition visiting the farm and her children’s favorite attraction, the jumping pillow. “It’s fun for my kids to explore outside across different ages,” she stated.

Pumpkin Daze continues until November 1st, with park closures on Mondays and Tuesdays. Detailed hours of operation and special Halloween events, such as flashlight corn maze activities, are available on the Abbey Farms website.
