U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio Urges Cubans to Collaborate with CIA for Change

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has encouraged Cubans aiming for reform to collaborate with the CIA. This appeal is part of increasing efforts by the Trump administration to dismantle Cuba’s communist regime. On Friday, Rubio wrote on X, highlighting the need for change due to unmet promises and societal inequality. He urged Cubans to leverage this moment through a confidential partnership with the CIA.

The CIA echoed Rubio’s message. They shared it in Spanish and included a video outlining how Cubans can reach out to the agency. This move occurs amid the backdrop of stringent U.S. embargoes and sanctions that have escalated the cost of essential commodities in Cuba. These restrictions have also strained medical services, leading to prolonged queues for basic needs like bread and healthcare.

A strict U.S. embargo and sanctions seeking to put pressure on Cuba’s communist government have led to prices of basic goods skyrocketing and decreased access to medical care for its citizens.

Reports have emerged of long waits for bread and healthcare services. The economic strain intensified last week as the U.S. government imposed fresh sanctions, targeting Cuba’s state-run bank due to its alleged links with Iran. President Trump, during a campaign event in South Florida, mentioned future actions against Cuba while addressing the military maneuvers near Iran’s Strait of Hormuz. He spoke of deploying U.S. Navy warships en route back from Iran.

Trump suggested stationing a ship near Cuba’s coast, with plans for Marco Rubio to conclude diplomatic efforts. In response, Cuba’s Foreign Minister, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, dismissed U.S. threats, emphasizing Cuba’s resilience against aggressive intentions. Rodríguez Parrilla remarked on the beauty and defensiveness of Cuba’s beaches, asserting resistance to domination.
