The U.S. Marshals Service has recovered dozens of missing and endangered children in Ohio. This marks the largest operation of its kind in the state’s history. Known as Operation Meridian, the mission occurred in August with help from federal, state, and local law enforcement. It ended with 79 children, ages 6 to 17, being found across the state, as stated in a news release from the Marshals Service on Tuesday.
The operation focused on children missing due to circumstances like suspected sex trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and other dangers. Investigators teamed up with local police, state agencies, and federal partners, even locating some children as far away as Georgia.
“I am very proud of our dedicated law enforcement, community and media partners who worked tirelessly to bring our missing and most vulnerable children to safety,” said U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. “Every recovered child represents a life pulled back from danger.”
This is an ongoing story; updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
