Mike Tomlin, a Super Bowl-winning coach who led the Pittsburgh Steelers for 19 seasons, has entered the world of broadcasting, providing him the platform to voice his opinions publicly. Recently, Tomlin appeared on Pro Football Focus’ “NFL Show,” where he shared his thoughts on the best player in football today.
Tomlin expressed his admiration for Myles Garrett, the prominent pass rusher who played for the Cleveland Browns and currently represents the Los Angeles Rams. He referred to Garrett as the “best damn player in football.” This opinion carries weight since Tomlin has faced Garrett’s skill firsthand during twice-yearly matchups in the AFC North.
In 2025, Garrett set a remarkable NFL record for sacks in a single season, achieving 23 sacks. Tomlin highlighted Garrett’s exceptional ability to rack up sacks even in adverse situations, such as the fourth quarter when teams often focus on running the ball.
“Teams were running the football, and this guy broke the NFL sack record,” Tomlin stated. He emphasized that Garrett’s addition to the Rams, a Super Bowl contender, makes them even more formidable.
Playing for the Rams alongside renowned defensive lineman Aaron Donald further enhances Garrett’s opportunities to cement his legacy. The Rams boast a strong offense led by MVP Matthew Stafford and star receivers Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, promising many situations where opposing teams will be forced to throw more.
Garrett’s debut with the Rams is set for Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne, Australia. Although Aaron Donald will miss this opening game, the anticipation remains high for Garrett’s performance alongside Rams defensive stars.
