A tragic incident occurred in Savonburg, Kansas, when a 4-year-old child died after being electrocuted by a clothes dryer. This unfortunate event took place last Thursday while the child was playing at home, as reported by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) on Saturday.
The child, allegedly electrocuted by a 220-volt dryer, was found unconscious by the parents, who immediately rushed to a local hospital. Unfortunately, the child was later pronounced dead. Officials have begun an investigation and, as of now, do not suspect foul play.
In a statement, the Sheriff’s Office expressed their heartfelt condolences to the affected family and all responders involved, including Allen County dispatchers, first responders, and hospital staff.
High voltage, such as the 220-volt current involved, poses significant risks, potentially resulting in severe injuries or fatalities like cardiac arrest.
While house fires are commonly associated with dryers due to lint buildup and overheating, electrical deaths related to these appliances are rare. An example of a similar incident occurred in 2018 when a 10-year-old boy was found deceased in a dryer at a Houston-area apartment complex. The medical examination indicated electrocution, with no signs of injury or wrongdoing.
