Tom Brady, an iconic NFL quarterback, played for the New England Patriots for two decades before joining the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020. Drafted as the 199th pick, Brady evolved into a player with a record seven Super Bowl victories.
Born on August 3, 1977, in San Mateo, California, to parents Galynn and Tom Brady Sr., Brady showcased his athletic talent during his time at Junipero Serra High School, excelling in both baseball and football. In 1995, he was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the MLB draft, but he chose to attend the University of Michigan to pursue football.
At Michigan, Brady saw playing time during his junior year. By 2000, the New England Patriots selected him in the sixth round of the NFL draft. Initially, during the 2000 season, Brady was the fourth-string quarterback behind Drew Bledsoe, John Friesz, and Michael Bishop. In 2001, he advanced to the second-string position and eventually replaced Bledsoe, following an injury during a game against the New York Jets in September.
Under Brady’s leadership, the Patriots seized the Super Bowl title in 2002, overcoming the St. Louis Rams. Further triumphs followed in 2004 against the Carolina Panthers. Brady amassed seven Super Bowl wins in total, including victories in 2005, 2015, 2017, and 2019, with an additional Super Bowl win during his first year with the Buccaneers in 2021.
Brady’s career experienced controversy when, in 2015, he received a suspension for four games due to allegations of deflating footballs during the AFC Championship against the Colts. Despite disputes, the suspension held, sidelining Brady for the start of the 2016 season.
Brady made headlines again in March 2020 by departing the Patriots and head coach Bill Belichick to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His first season with the team culminated in a Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. With ten Super Bowl appearances, Brady holds the record for both wins and appearances by an NFL player.
In addition to his football accomplishments, Brady launched his brand TB12 in 2013. By May 2022, it was announced he would join Fox Sports as a lead analyst after his retirement from football.
Brady’s personal life has also been in the spotlight. He was married to model Gisele Bündchen for 13 years, but they announced their divorce in October 2022. The couple has two children, Benjamin Rein, born in 2009, and Vivian Lake, born in 2012. Brady also has a son, John Edward Thomas Moynahan, with his ex-girlfriend Bridget Moynahan, born in August 2007.
