Robert De Niro recently collaborated with Ariana Grande in the comedy Focker-In-Law. He shared an interesting insight into his relationship with the pop star, revealing that, surprisingly, he has never watched her in the film Wicked. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, De Niro confessed, “I didn’t see her movie, and I still am trying to see it, believe it or not, but I want to see it. I’m going to see it with my daughter. And she’s, of course, seen it.”
Despite this, De Niro is not entirely unfamiliar with Grande’s work. He acknowledged, “I had seen her in some stuff with my daughter, some sitcom thing she had done.” This could likely be one of Grande’s early roles on a Nickelodeon show. He further mentioned that his daughter was a fan, which is how he became aware of Grande’s talent.
De Niro spoke highly of Grande’s performance in Focker-In-Law, in which she portrays Olivia, the girlfriend of Henry Focker. He remarked, “She was very professional. She’s terrific and very quick and got it all. She was very much part of the whole process. I liked her. Nice kid.” The film is set to hit theaters on November 25.
Receiving praise from De Niro is significant, given his legendary status in the acting world. Though Grande is primarily recognized for her singing career, De Niro’s comments highlight her strong acting skills as well.
