Reckless Driver’s Beach Pursuit Ends in Arrest in San Diego

Authorities in San Diego apprehended a man following a reckless driving incident that escalated into a pursuit ending on a beach. The incident unfolded on Sunday morning, capturing the attention of shocked beachgoers.

Pursuit Begins

The pursuit began just prior to 7:30 a.m. when the San Diego Police Department received several calls reporting a man driving erratically in the Pacific Beach neighborhood. Witnesses described the individual operating a tan or gold Nissan Frontier, performing donuts in parking areas, and narrowly avoiding collisions with other vehicles and roadside structures.

Police quickly responded and located the suspect, who was later identified as 25-year-old Griffin Charles Foy. An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away, initiating a police chase.

Pursuit Terminated

Officers chose to end the pursuit due to the driver’s increasing disregard for public safety. Shortly after, police relocated Foy’s truck; however, he ignored authorities once more, prompting another chase, which was again terminated.

Helicopter Assistance

Foy became a suspect for felony evasion, leading officers to saturate the area to locate him. A police helicopter, known as ABLE, was deployed to track the vehicle after it was sighted again.

The helicopter monitored the truck as it moved onto the beach, approaching the ocean, allowing officers to intercept safely.

Beach Arrest

Footage from the scene showcases bystanders witnessing the police detaining Foy on the sand. Officers performed a high-risk vehicle stop due to the severity of the violations, and Foy was apprehended without further issues. A police K-9 accompanied the officers but was not used in the arrest.

Charges Filed

Foy now faces charges including felony evading a peace officer, obstructing or resisting an officer, and driving under the influence of drugs. Despite the chaotic events, no injuries were reported.

Foy’s detention was confirmed at San Diego Central Jail. The pursuit and arrest demonstrated the coordinated effort of local law enforcement.
