Recall of Children’s Squeeze Toys Due to Safety Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of popular children’s squeeze toys over serious injury risks linked to the beads inside them. Consumers should also stop using a similar toy, although no recall has been issued for it yet.

The recalls include the Squeezy Dumplings from GIHNJSI and Rainbow Mystery Squishy Buns from OKK Trading. Both toys contain water beads that could expand if ingested. This can cause choking and intestinal blockages, leading to severe symptoms like discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and even posing a life-threatening risk.

Squishy Buns and Squeezy Dumplings have been recalled because of the safety hazards associated with their water beads.

GIHNJSI’s Squeezy Dumplings, sold on Amazon in May and June, are round, squishy with cartoon faces and glitter particles. They are packaged like a bamboo steamer, labeled ‘SQUEEZY DUMPLINGS’ and ‘SQUEEZE ME.’ About 8,000 units have been recalled.

Similarly, around 7,200 Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun Toys, available in various U.S. third-party stores from May to August, have been recalled. These toys share a similar design, with glitter and cartoon faces, and packaging that resembles a bamboo steamer. Their label reads ‘Rainbow MYSTERY’ and ‘SUGAR EDITION.’

If you own these toys, the CPSC advises writing ‘RECALLED’ in permanent marker on both the product and container, then disposing of it, and sending a photo of the discarded toy to the respective emails: [email protected] for Squeezy Dumplings or [email protected] for Squishy Buns. A full refund will be provided, as per the notice.

No injuries have been reported in association with these toys. However, the CPSC advises immediate discontinuation of Squishy Bun Toys from Ivyapingdianpu, which breach mandatory toy safety standards. Although these too contain water beads, Ivyapingdianpu has not agreed to a recall or offered consumers any solutions, even after a Notice of Violation was issued.

The dumpling-shaped toys with glitter-like particles and a cartoon face come in a steamer-like container marked ‘SQUISHY BUN’ and ‘Rainbow MYSTERY.’ An estimated 100 of these toys, sold on Amazon in June and possibly by other vendors, are affected. The agency requests that any toy-related injuries or defects be reported to the CPSC. Dispose of these toys immediately, as officials instructed.
