The recent decision by the Trump administration to send over 200 FBI analysts to Georgia has garnered attention. Despite President Trump’s repeated claims, no evidence of fraud in the 2020 election in Georgia has been found. Critics argue that this move is part of a larger strategy to cast doubt on the electoral process and the integrity of future elections.
President Trump, despite frequently losing court battles, continues to leverage federal resources to investigate or attempt to modify the nation’s electoral infrastructure to his advantage. The deployment of 260 FBI analysts for a ‘priority’ investigation in Fulton County, Georgia, followed a Supreme Court ruling that allowed states to count mail ballots arriving post-Election Day, which thwarted Mr. Trump’s efforts.
‘It is incredibly concerning,’ said Marisa Pyle from All Voting Is Local, a nonpartisan advocacy group. ‘As we approach significant elections, using these investigations either intentionally or inadvertently seems aimed at undermining public trust in the electoral system.’
The Justice Department remains central in these investigations, which traditionally operate independently of presidential influence. Currently, the Justice Department is probing the 2020 election in Georgia. In January, the FBI raided an election warehouse in Fulton County, seizing over 600 boxes of materials, including ballots from the 2020 election. This raid was based on debunked claims of ballot irregularities revived by Kurt Olsen, known for his denial of election outcomes.
Moreover, federal agents recently searched a voter registration organization in Ohio, intensifying the scrutiny surrounding voter registration activities.
