Police-Involved Shooting in Minneapolis Injures Multiple People

A shooting involving police officers occurred in downtown Minneapolis, resulting in multiple injuries, including two officers, according to authorities. The Minneapolis Police Department responded to an incident near 15 E. Grant St. on Thursday afternoon, marking the location of the shooting. The area remained active as investigations continued.

KSTP-TV in St. Paul reported, citing law enforcement and City Hall sources, that several civilians were killed. The incident involved at least six people, including two police officers. One officer was hit in the stomach, and another was shot in the leg. As of 5:39 p.m. local time, one officer was undergoing surgery while the other officer’s injuries were not life-threatening. By 6 p.m. local time, official confirmation of fatalities or detailed conditions of all victims was not available.

Footage circulating on social media revealed armed officers aiming rifles at an apartment tower near the Minneapolis Convention Center. Residents were urged to avoid the Loring Park neighborhood due to ongoing law enforcement activities in the densely populated area.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on X, “FBI is aware of the shooting in Minneapolis involving law enforcement and our personnel are responding. We will offer any and all resources necessary to assist local authorities.”

The ATF’s St. Paul branch stated on X, “ATF special agents are responding to what is being reported as an active shooter situation near East Grant St. and South Marquette in downtown Minneapolis.”

Governor Tim Walz addressed the situation on X, mentioning the state’s public safety team’s involvement. He indicated state officials were present to support local law enforcement, pending further updates. In a separate commentary, Walz expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their active efforts to ensure community safety.

Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth posted on X, “I am aware of reports regarding a shooting in downtown Minneapolis. I am praying for the victims of this heinous crime, and I’m incredibly thankful for the massive response of our brave law enforcement officers.”
