Multiple Victims in Minneapolis Shooting, Including Police Officers

Minneapolis police have responded to a shooting near 15 East Grant Street, resulting in several injuries, including two police officers. Residents have been urged to avoid the area due to the ongoing situation. A source confirms that a suspect is down, which aligns with scanner audio reports. A high-ranking official noted that the two injured officers are expected to be alright.

The intersection of Nicollet and Grant Streets saw an extensive response from law enforcement agencies beyond the Minneapolis Police Department. Officers and vehicles arrived from regions such as St. Louis Park, Edina, the University of Minnesota, the Minnesota State Patrol, as well as transit police and sheriff’s deputies from surrounding areas. Additionally, the St. Paul’s ATF field division confirmed the presence of special agents at the site.

Police advise avoiding the area from 12th Street to Franklin Avenue and from Hennepin Avenue to Third Avenue South as they address the situation. According to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, state officials are actively supporting local law enforcement efforts on the ground and will continue to share details as they become available. FBI Director Kash Patel has committed to providing “any and all resources necessary” to assist the local authorities.

The central focus of the police response is an apartment complex on Grant Street, where officers armed with long guns have maintained surveillance. Two heavily armored SWAT vehicles are at the intersection, with ambulances positioned both in the immediate vicinity and along the route toward downtown. Observations included several stretchers being moved from the building; some individuals appeared to be sustaining leg injuries, although the condition of others remains unclear.

Conor Wight from WCCO reported seeing a gathered crowd notice activity around the eighth floor of the complex, where some residents are believed to be inside their units as police continue their assessment.

Eyewitness Abdiwakil Mohamed, from south Minneapolis, recounted hearing gunshots while driving down La Salle Avenue. He reported three shots, seemingly fired from a rifle, as well as seeing a police officer hit in their squad car. The impacted officer accelerated and collided with another vehicle. Mohamed observed a shooter firing from a high location in a nearby building, targeting individuals on the ground. He detailed seeing an officer remove their bulletproof vest to check for chest wounds, followed by police arriving from all directions.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available regarding this developing situation.
