Police Activity Closes 101 Freeway Northbound Lanes Near Downtown Los Angeles

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) closed all northbound lanes of the 101 freeway approaching downtown Los Angeles in Boyle Heights on Thursday morning. This closure resulted from police activity in the area.

Traffic was halted north of 4th Street just before 9 a.m., leading to significant congestion. According to a CHP log, vehicles were diverted off the freeway at 4th Street while an investigation continued. KTLA reported that an officer-involved shooting on the 101 freeway led to one person being hospitalized.

Officials from the CHP did not disclose details about the incident. They issued a SigAlert at 8:55 a.m. to block all northbound lanes. A department spokesperson did not immediately answer inquiries regarding the situation.

Video footage from KTLA showed the freeway marked off with crime scene tape and several patrol cars present. Traffic was seen backed up for miles. Police were on the scene by approximately 7:30 a.m.
