The Oregon Ducks’ 2026 season has taken a challenging turn. On Monday, Dan Lanning announced quarterback Dante Moore won’t return this season. Moore suffered a concussion on September 28 against USC when linebacker Desman Stephens hit him during a slide attempt.
Moore had resumed practice in recent weeks but wasn’t cleared for games. Lanning mentioned, “If Dante could choose, he’d play, but it’s out of our hands. Practice is controlled, unlike games.” Although a full recovery is expected, Moore won’t play soon.
Before the USC game, Moore performed well, recording 925 yards and nine touchdowns without interceptions. Lanning clarified Moore’s absence isn’t tied to Oregon’s three losses. Moore serves as the scout team quarterback, providing top practice performance.
Dante Moore’s situation impacted Oregon profoundly. Following a loss to Oklahoma State, the team couldn’t afford further setbacks. Losses to UCLA and Illinois highlighted struggles in the passing game and offensive coordination.
Subsequently, Dan Lanning dismissed offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer. Moore’s focus shifts to recovery and the NFL Draft, where he’s projected as a first-round pick. After returning for another Oregon season, his NFL prospects loom large.
Currently 4-3, Oregon’s postseason chances dwindle with the Ducks struggling offensively. Planned roster changes for 2027 include the addition of Dylan Raiola from Nebraska to potentially fill Moore’s shoes.
Oregon prepares for its next matchup against Northwestern this weekend.
