Montgomery’s Eutaw Street Homer Highlights White Sox Win

Baltimore saw some notable baseball history when Colson Montgomery of the Chicago White Sox hit an impressive home run against the Baltimore Orioles. In the third inning, Montgomery’s shot reached Eutaw Street, becoming only the third player from his team to achieve this at Camden Yards. Previously, Adam Dunn and Jeff Liefer had done the same in 2013 and 2001, respectively. Montgomery remarked, “I didn’t even think it went over that gate, I thought it went through the gate.” It was clear he made solid contact with the ball.

The White Sox used this momentum for a dominating win. They scored seven runs in the inning, leading to a 9-3 victory with a crowd of 17,581 watching. Jacob Gonzalez contributed with a two-run single, while Junior Perez hit a three-run homer. The team improved to a 45-39 record, securing their place at the top of the American League Central. They moved two games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians, who lost to the Texas Rangers.

June was a productive month for the Sox, who went 13-12, marking consecutive winning months for the first time since 2021. Junior Perez celebrated his home run with teammates Jacob Gonzalez, Tristan Peters, and Kyle Teel. Manager Will Venable praised his team’s consistent energy, stating they had effectively minimized their low points.

The victory broke a streak of seven straight road series losses for the White Sox. Venable expressed pride in his team’s perseverance through their road challenges.

Pitcher Erick Fedde picked up the win after allowing three runs in five innings. He struck out three and walked three. Tyler Schweitzer closed out the game, pitching four scoreless innings for the save. He was the first Sox pitcher to achieve this since Keith Foulke in 1997. Reflecting on his performance, Fedde credited his sweeper pitch.

Strong offensive support backed Fedde, particularly in the third inning when Andrew Benintendi secured a single, followed by Montgomery’s powerful home run. Montgomery, now with 21 home runs for the season, shared his strategic approach to batting that led to positive results.

Montgomery’s homer was regarded as majestic by Venable. After Montgomery’s shot, Gonzalez drove in two runs, followed by Perez’s three-run homer, extending their lead to 8-1. Gonzalez added another RBI with a double in the fourth inning, securing the series win against the Orioles—the first since 2021.

In other White Sox news, the team made a minor-league trade, sending pitcher Ben Peoples to the Texas Rangers. In return, they acquired catcher Ben Hartl. Peoples had an impressive 2.39 ERA with Triple-A Charlotte. Hartl, a 23-year-old, has potential with a batting average of .218, three home runs, and 16 RBIs at High-A.
