Israeli Forces Capture Hamas Leader in Gaza Raid

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have captured Hamas’ head of general security in a significant operational raid within Gaza. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced the capture of Mu’in al-Arabid, head of the General Security Apparatus in Hamas, during an IDF incursion deep inside Gaza territory. The raid was supported by cover airstrikes, and there were no reported Israeli casualties.

Katz emphasized the proactive stance of the Israeli military against threats, stating, “We pursue Hamas terrorists, thwart them, and destroy their terrorist infrastructure. Our commitment is to maintaining a secure zone in Gaza to safeguard both residents and IDF personnel.” This action forms part of Israel’s broader strategic goal in Gaza, which Katz describes as fully controlling the territory until it is demilitarized and Hamas is disarmed.

The ceasefire that began on October 10, 2025, sees the IDF firmly entrenched in Gaza, with nearly 70% of the area reportedly destroyed. Katz declared intentions to remain in Gaza until all terrorist tunnels are cleared and all threats to Israel’s security are nullified. Any breaches of the established security zone, including aerial launches, would face stringent retaliation from the IDF.

The raid comes in the wake of demands from former President Donald Trump’s administration for the disarmament of Hamas and relinquishing control over Gaza. Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law, visited Israel and indicated possible backing from the U.S. in supporting the IDF’s mission to ensure complete security in the region. Kushner reinforced the position that non-compliance from Hamas would consolidate additional support for Israel’s actions.

Despite diplomatic endeavors, Kushner expressed caution in trusting Hamas, referencing past atrocities committed by the group. Following a face-to-face meeting with Hamas in Egypt, Kushner remarked that conversations were amicable, although he maintained skepticism over the group’s commitment to peace. He emphasized that peace efforts must be evidenced through tangible actions and hoped for cooperation from Hamas in the ongoing diplomatic process.

The U.S.-led “Board of Peace” proposal outlines a series of steps including a phased ceasefire, demilitarization, Israeli troop withdrawal, and international efforts for reconstruction. These measures aim to establish a stable governance framework in Gaza and foster peace between Israel and the Palestinian territories.
