FBI Action Against Illegal Voting
The FBI has charged four noncitizens with illegal voting activities in New Jersey, intensifying efforts to address voter fraud. FBI Director Kash Patel is spearheading this initiative to clamp down on illegal voting practices.
Governor Hochul’s Anti-ICE Stance
Simultaneously, New York Governor Kathy Hochul endorses proposals that counter ICE’s operations. These include banning police cooperation with ICE and enabling individuals to file lawsuits against federal agents.
Illegal Voting Case in Louisiana
In Louisiana, Denise Nataly Migliore, an Australian lawful permanent resident, faces charges related to illegal voting. Prosecutors from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana reported that Migliore, 51, falsified her citizenship status to register and vote in federal elections. She was accused of casting ballots in 2022 and 2024, wrongly certifying her eligibility.
Homeland Security’s Response
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are taking decisive actions. On July 1, Migliore was arrested at a federal courthouse in New Orleans following ICE investigations. DHS’s acting Assistant Secretary of Public Affairs, Lauren Bis, emphasized the collaboration with ICE and federal entities in arresting Migliore. Bis stated, “Our message to aliens who vote in American elections is clear: We will find you, arrest you and you will face the consequences, including criminal charges and deportation.”
Potential Consequences for Migliore
Migliore’s legal challenges are significant. She could receive up to five years in prison, three years of supervised release, a $250,000 fine, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee if convicted.
