Expert Commentary on Rising College Quarterback

In recent days, some top college football quarterbacks started their seasons: Texas’s Arch Manning, Oregon’s Dante Moore, and Notre Dame’s CJ Carr. Each player stands a chance of becoming a high pick in the NFL. However, sports analyst Colin Cowherd highlights another talented player, saying, “I can’t believe there’s a better quarterback than Darian Mensah,” referring to the Miami Hurricanes QB.

Cowherd expresses admiration for Mensah’s journey, noting his unique path from high school football in an area often overlooked, to playing for Tulane and Duke. “Now he’s in Miami; there’s gonna be some pressure. He’s playing with much better players. I liked the journey, and man, he can spin it,” Cowherd adds.

Mensah made an impressive debut against Stanford on Friday night. In the 45-6 victory, he completed 27 of 30 passes, amassing 401 yards and five touchdowns. His top target, wide receiver Malachi Toney, secured 234 yards and three touchdowns.

The Hurricanes’ previous QB1, Carson Beck, left for the NFL, making Mensah the new starter. His game highlight reel against Stanford, not showing any interceptions and just three incomplete passes, is being widely shared on social media. Mensah demonstrated resilience under defensive pressure, maintaining poise throughout the game.

Despite his stellar performance, some fans point out that Stanford may not have posed the toughest challenge. Mensah’s upcoming games will provide a better test of his abilities. He is currently a leader in the Heisman odds, although the season is still young. Cowherd’s mentioned quarterbacks could face tough opponents, potentially setting themselves apart.

Head coach Mario Cristobal depends on Mensah to drive Miami back into the College Football Playoff and contend for the National Championship. Their next match is against Florida A&M on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Hurricanes will also face Notre Dame, ranked No. 4 in the Top 25, on Saturday, Nov. 7.
