Democratic Midterm Strategies Scrutinized
Attorney Matt Belinsky and Brianna Lyman from The Federalist discussed a report from Axios detailing Democratic strategies for the midterm elections. The conversation included reactions to comments made by Steve Hilton on Joe Rogan’s podcast concerning Los Angeles’ issues and fuel prices under Democratic policies.
GOP Primary Nears Conclusion
The Republican primary in Rhode Island featured a tight race between Elaine Pelino, a former NFL cheerleader presenting herself as the traditional choice, and Aaron Guckian, a former aide to ex-Gov. Donald Carcieri with centrist leanings. By Thursday morning, results were still pending.
Republicans are eager to find a candidate who can sway voters in a state with a historical Democratic leaning.

Pelino and Guckian have campaigned on differing platforms. Pelino emphasized merit-based hiring, support for law enforcement, immigration laws, and school choice. At a candidate forum, she stated, “I’m learning because I’m not a career politician. I’m here because I love Rhode Island and want its residents to have a great life.”
Guckian focused on policy, pledging to enhance Rhode Island’s permitting process, improve service delivery, and manage state revenue better. He highlighted the state’s budget growth from $9.3 billion in 2019 to more than $14 billion planned for 2024 to 2026, attributing this increase to using temporary federal relief funds for long-term commitments.
History of the Candidates
Pelino’s prior experiences include modeling, media work, and cheerleading for the Houston Oilers, which later became the Tennessee Titans. She founded Tigress magazine in 2011.
Guckian, with a policy-driven campaign, targeted the economic mistakes of Rhode Island. He noted on his website, “Rhode Island built permanent commitments on temporary federal money,” pointing to the state’s financial decisions.
Republican Aspirations in Challenging Terrain
The GOP primary winner will compete in the general election on November 3. The challenge will be significant given Democratic dominance in the state. Leo Briceno reports on politics for the congressional team at Fox News Digital and has prior experience with World Magazine.
