Teen Survivor Found After Boat Capsizes off Alaska’s Coast

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) announced on Tuesday that a 15-year-old was the only survivor among three missing individuals after a boating incident. The teenager was discovered clinging to a capsized vessel off Alaska’s coast on Monday.

Rescue personnel found him in a critical condition. He was experiencing symptoms of hypothermia when rescued from the overturned skiff.

The survivor was rescued from the overturned skiff experiencing symptoms of hypothermia, officials reported.

Tragically, the two other mariners were found deceased. They were aboard an 18-foot fishing boat that overturned roughly 4 miles east of St. Lawrence Island.

The Coast Guard received an alert for the missing boat early Monday after being notified by Alaska State Troopers on Sunday evening. The vessel was overdue from its expected return at 3 a.m. Sunday.

Poor weather and visibility delayed the rescue mission, which commenced Monday morning. An aircrew located the lone survivor and provided a raft with survival gear.

A good Samaritan vessel aided in the rescue operations, saving the teenager and retrieving the bodies of the two mariners.

The Coast Guard delivered the martime victims and the surviving teen to Nome, Alaska. This case adds to the list of recent maritime rescues involving the Coast Guard, including saving eight individuals off Fort Myers Beach.
