Lindsay Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, recently expressed a willingness to debate Fox News contributor Jonathan Turley. Reddington disagreed with Turley’s criticism of his public remarks regarding the juror in Clancy’s murder trial.
During an interview with Fox News correspondent Bryan Llenas, Turley labeled Reddington’s comments on the juror as ‘utterly reprehensible’ and accused him of inciting public hostility towards the juror. Turley noted that the juror’s sole decision to abstain from joining a unanimous murder verdict had been unfairly targeted.
Reddington countered Turley’s accusations by suggesting that Turley’s assessments were inaccurate, particularly given the reasons behind the jury’s inability to reach a unanimous verdict. Reddington stated that Turley should have evaluated the records before levying criticism.
The public remains unaware of the holdout juror’s narrative. Llenas acknowledged this during the exchange. Reddington predicted that the juror might soon be interviewed, calling into question the juror’s motives.
The disagreement stems from the aftermath of Clancy’s trial, where Reddington publicly challenged the juror who hindered a unanimous verdict. Turley responded, urging lawyers to maintain professional decorum toward jurors after trials.
Turley further commented on the matter through a post on X, responding to Reddington’s interview challenge. He questioned the debate’s focus, emphasizing lawyers’ duty to avoid encouraging hostility towards jurors who exercise personal judgment.
Reddington maintained that his criticism of the juror was valid, citing the juror’s disregard for judicial instructions.
The trial concluded with a mistrial due to jurors’ indecision over Clancy’s criminal responsibility for her children’s deaths. Prosecutors reiterated their intention to retry her on murder charges.
