Wendy’s has revived the long-extinct T-Rex burger in Edmond, Oklahoma. This colossal nine-patty cheeseburger challenge includes all the traditional toppings and comes with a hefty $29.99 price tag and a massive 3,000 calories.
The T-Rex burger challenge offers a T-shirt and a special prize for participants who can consume the entire burger in nine minutes. Images of the burger and its challenge rules were posted on Reddit, sparking a range of reactions from users. Some expressed concerns over health risks, citing terms like ‘high cholesterol’ and ‘heart attack’, while others expressed enthusiasm, with some claiming they could conquer the burger.
Lauren Manaker, a dietitian from South Carolina, highlighted that eating this burger is about the experience rather than daily nutrition. Manaker suggested that anyone trying the burger should consider sharing it, eat slowly, and balance the day’s meals with healthier options.
The burger challenge begins in Oklahoma restaurants starting September 10. The prize, besides completing the challenge, is a voucher for a free meal. Competitors only need to finish the burger, so fries and drinks don’t count toward the win.
The T-Rex burger’s history dates back to the mid-2000s, first appearing as a joke in Sports Illustrated. However, it gained popularity as a secret menu item in a Brandon, Manitoba Wendy’s location. This eventually led to a corporate ban, but the burger survived as a customizable secret menu hack where customers combine a Dave’s Triple with six additional patties to recreate the T-Rex burger.
While the challenge offers a thrilling gastronomic experience, health experts warn about indulging in meals that contain excessive amounts of sodium and fat. For those interested, it’s best to be mindful of how it fits into a balanced diet.
