Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Julian Lewis is currently recovering following a medical emergency, as reported by his father. The incident occurred at the Buffaloes’ facility on Wednesday, and Lewis was swiftly transported to a hospital for treatment. The exact nature of his medical situation remains undisclosed.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, T. Carlton Lewis, Julian’s father, expressed gratitude for the medical team’s efforts and the support offered by teammates and fans. He requested privacy for the family and stated there would be no further comments for now.
“He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support,” T. Carlton Lewis wrote.
The Colorado Athletics department released a statement supporting Lewis and his family through this challenging time. They emphasized their commitment to his health and well-being.
Julian Lewis is a 19-year-old sophomore who started the season as the Colorado Buffaloes’ quarterback. He was benched by head coach Deion Sanders after four games. His last game before the benching was against Baylor Bears on September 26. Subsequently, junior Isaac Wilson took over, but the team has struggled, continuing their losing streak.
Head coach Sanders was questioned about potentially reinstating Lewis due to team performance. He expressed that decisions within the locker room are not arbitrary and that he is compassionate and fair with players.
“If I’m anything, I’m too forgiving and very, very kind. …We know a little more than you do, because we’re inside the locker room,” Sanders stated.
During the season, Lewis has completed 733 yards, with six touchdowns and two interceptions over four starts. His performance, while notable, was interrupted by the medical situation. The Buffaloes are currently at the bottom of the Big 12 standings.
