Cinde Warmington Advances in New Hampshire Race Amid Criticism

Cinde Warmington has secured the Democratic nomination for New Hampshire’s gubernatorial race. Running without opposition, this marks her second attempt to win office.

Warmington has faced criticisms for her previous role as an attorney with Purdue Pharma. The company’s controversial marketing of OxyContin in the early 2000s has been a focal point of attacks. The Republican Governors Association has labeled her involvement as disqualifying.

“Based on her role in fueling the opioid epidemic and calling OxyContin a ‘miracle drug,’ Cinde Warmington is completely disqualified from being governor. Warmington chose a payday over protecting New Hampshire families,” the RGA stated.

Purdue Pharma faced significant backlash, investigations, and lawsuits over their handling of OxyContin. In May, they settled for $7.4 billion due to allegations of concealing the drug’s addictive nature. Warmington has countered these claims, stating her association with Purdue was limited. In a video titled “setting the record straight,” she addressed the criticisms directly.

“My dad, who I loved dearly, struggled with addiction,” Warmington said. “We did not escape the opioid crisis. In 2001, when I was assigned to represent Purdue Pharma, I was advocating for patients’ access to healthcare. At that time, I was unaware of Purdue Pharma’s criminal actions.”

Warmington previously served on the New Hampshire Executive Council, representing the state’s 2nd district from 2021 to 2025. She previously ran for governor in 2024, losing to Joyce Craig, who then lost to Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte.

Her 2026 campaign focuses on affordability issues. Alongside other Democrats, Warmington criticizes Republicans for not addressing rising living costs effectively.

“The prices of houses, groceries, electricity, and property taxes are crushing working families. And Kelly Ayotte is making your life more expensive. I know we can do better,” Warmington said.

In addition to pressing affordability, Warmington’s platform includes opposing Trump’s immigration policies, regulating data center projects, and preventing housing purchases by investor groups. She has also vowed to prevent sales and income taxes.

Warmington will face Gov. Kelly Ayotte in the general election on November 3. Ayotte previously won in 2024, defeating Craig.
