LSU presents a complex situation. Brian Kelly succeeded Ed Orgeron in 2021 amid optimism. Despite Kelly’s strengths, he was not as compatible with LSU’s culture as Orgeron, leading to his swift departure. Orgeron’s past success at LSU stemmed from his adept delegation and talent recognition, producing memorable seasons like the 2019 championship under quarterback Joe Burrow.
Quarterback Dynamics
The shift in talent balance also affects quarterback play. Previously, the SEC fielded extraordinary quarterbacks such as Tim Tebow, Cam Newton, and Joe Burrow. These players significantly elevated their teams’ performances.
Currently, top quarterbacks seem increasingly aligned with Big Ten teams. While talents like Stetson Bennett of Georgia achieved success, the situation has shifted. Many promising SEC quarterbacks, such as Jayden Daniels and Diego Pavia, are on teams with other limitations.

Despite the current challenges, the SEC still holds potential. Coaches like Kirby Smart, Lane Kiffin, and Steve Sarkisian possess the expertise to drive success in upcoming seasons. Highly regarded quarterbacks like Arch Manning and Trinidad Chambliss may restore the SEC’s competitive edge.
