A Mexican man, Arnoldo Jimenez, accused of killing his wife on their wedding night in Illinois has been extradited back to the United States. Jimenez had been a fugitive for over a decade before his arrest last year in Mexico. This development was announced by the FBI on Thursday.
Apprehension and Extradition
Jimenez was arrested on January 30, 2025, in Monterrey, Mexico. The Mexican authorities collaborated with U.S. law enforcement to capture him. He was previously listed on the FBI’s Most Wanted list, ranking as the fourth-most wanted fugitive at the time of his arrest.
“Our personnel have successfully brought back FBI Most Wanted fugitive Arnoldo Jimenez from Mexico,” stated the FBI. “No matter how much time has passed or where a criminal may be, the FBI will never stop in our pursuit of justice.”
Details of the Crime
Arnoldo Jimenez is accused of killing his 26-year-old wife, Estrella Carrera, on their wedding night in May 2012. Authorities found her body in the bathtub of her Burbank, Illinois apartment two days after their marriage. Jimenez faced charges of first-degree murder soon after the discovery.
A state warrant for his arrest was issued on May 15, 2012. A federal warrant followed when he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
Legal Proceedings
Authorities have yet to reveal a motive behind Carrera’s murder or provide details of Jimenez’s upcoming court appearance.
