Texas Longhorns began their season with a resounding victory against Texas State, defeating the Bobcats 59-7 in front of an enthusiastic crowd exceeding 100,000. The game provided Longhorns fans the first glimpse of their new star transfer, sophomore wide receiver Cam Coleman.
Cam Coleman showcased his remarkable skills, amassing 70 yards and two touchdowns with three catches. Highlighting his performance was a 44-yard pass completion from quarterback Arch Manning. The connection between Coleman and Manning was evident as Coleman demonstrated his red-zone prowess.
Looking ahead, Texas faces a significant challenge with a Saturday night game against Ohio State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Coleman remains unfazed by the prospect of facing Ohio State’s defense, expressing confidence with his remark, “We’re coming. We’re coming.”
Coleman was deemed the top-rated transfer in the 2026 college football cycle following impressive seasons with Auburn. In 2024, he achieved 598 yards and eight touchdowns on 37 catches, averaging 16.2 yards per catch and earning recognition as part of the SEC All-Freshman Team. Last season, he delivered 708 yards and five touchdowns on 56 catches, averaging 12.6 yards per catch.
The synergy between Coleman and Manning suggests that Coleman could surpass his previous records this season. Manning’s performance against Texas State was notable, completing 20 out of 27 passes for 305 yards, contributing four touchdowns, and enduring one interception. Ryan Wingo also had an outstanding performance, with 121 yards and one touchdown on seven catches.
Ohio State poses a formidable challenge. Both teams enter Week 2 undefeated. Ohio State recently dominated Ball State with a 56-3 victory. Coleman must prove his mettle against Ohio State’s strong secondary.
