The incident occurred when the plane, carrying six individuals, crashed on Loop 20 in Laredo, Texas. The crash happened shortly after 10 p.m., as reported by Jose Baeza, an investigator with the Laredo Police Department.
Baeza mentioned the aircraft struck a vehicle during the crash. Authorities have not yet confirmed if the deceased individual was on board the jet or on the ground at the time of the incident. Details regarding the condition of those aboard the plane remain unknown.
Initial reports did not note any severe injuries among people on the ground. However, five responding officers required hospital treatment for smoke inhalation, according to Baeza. In response to the incident, Loop 20 was closed and expected to remain shut into the following morning.
The plane involved was a Cessna Citation Latitude twin jet, as identified by FlightAware data. It had departed from Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico around 6:19 p.m. NetJets confirmed in a statement that the aircraft involved in the crash was one of theirs, and they are cooperating with authorities on the investigation.
The specific cause of the crash near Laredo, about 140 miles southwest of San Antonio, remains under investigation. Social media videos captured the aftermath, showing the aircraft on its side, with significant damage as it impacted a highway barrier.
