The Buffalo Grove Days Parade for 2026 unfolded under gray skies with temperatures nearing 80 degrees. The parade route led to the bustling Mike Rylko Community Park. On Saturday, September 5, approximately 60 units participated in the lineup.
Celebrating a Musical Milestone
This year’s grand marshal was the Buffalo Grove Symphonic Band (BGSB), marking its 25-year journey in music. Founding Music Director Howard Green, recently retired, played a significant role in this occasion. Green, who helped establish the BGSB, waved from a vehicle’s open roof, holding a conductor’s baton with pride.
“It’s the first time in my life that I’ve done something like this,” Green remarked, expressing pride in the band’s achievements.
The BGSB is now in search of a new music director and conductor.
A Community Tradition
The Village of Buffalo Grove and Buffalo Grove Park District jointly produced the event, a free, five-day celebration running from September 3 to Labor Day, September 7, at Mike Rylko Community Park. Michael Terson, from the Park District, praised the excellent food and beverage options and highlighted the impressive music lineup.
Among the Kim family, Buffalo Grove Days signifies a time-honored tradition. James Kim, an alum of Adlai E. Stevenson High School, attended with his family and shared fond memories of his youth watching the parade. “Lake County is safe, with plenty of activities for kids,” Kim stated.
Pageant Queens and Community Engagement
The Buffalo Grove Community Pageant (BGCP) 2026 Queens joined the parade in an open convertible. The 2026 Queens are Little Miss Avni Aggarwal, Junior Miss Diya Mathan, Miss Buffalo Grove Saachi Churiwala, and Teen Miss Reha Sachdev. Saachi Churiwala, reflecting on her role, applauded the opportunities and support the community provides.
Personal encounters with first responders and community groups delighted many attendees. Among them were John Griffel and Tiffany Golladay, who expressed gratitude for the event, especially appreciating Lake County’s amenities.
Leadership and Community Pride
Buffalo Grove Village President and Mayor Eric Smith also made an appearance, speaking highly of the Labor Day tradition.
“This parade is always great, it’s a tradition we have on Labor Day,” Smith firmly stated. “I love Buffalo Grove.”
In summary, the parade provided a vibrant celebration of community and culture, underscoring the enduring spirit and pride of Buffalo Grove residents.
