Bryson DeChambeau’s Tensions Rise Ahead of LIV Golf Finale

Bryson DeChambeau appears tense as he prepares for this week’s LIV Golf season finale in Indianapolis. The uncertainty of LIV Golf’s future after 2026 is contributing to this tension. The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced in April that it will cease funding the circuit at the end of the season. Additionally, the prize money at LIV Indianapolis has reduced from the standard $20 million to $10.1 million.

These circumstances and future uncertainties are understandably causing frustration for DeChambeau, a prominent figure in LIV Golf. However, he chose to direct some of this frustration at media members observing him during practice in Indianapolis. DeChambeau, representing Crushers GC, was photographed playing at various events, showcasing his ambivalent stance towards the media.

According to Sean Zak of Golf.com, DeChambeau arrived at the driving range at The Club at Chatham Hills with a notable message for the reporters present. “Oooh the mafia has arrived. The mafia. You guys love talking s–t,” he said. Zak observed that this comment was mostly made in jest, yet the atmosphere grew more uncomfortable the following day.

Ryan French, known for his Monday Q Info account, was reportedly asked to leave by DeChambeau’s team while he was merely observing the practice. Despite this, French shared that DeChambeau later called him for a 20-minute conversation. French appreciated the call, noting that many players might not have taken this step.

This interaction followed the spread of the story on social media, highlighting the engagement between DeChambeau and the press. Despite these events, DeChambeau and his LIV Golf peers are spending the week wrapping up the 2026 season. The LIV Team Championship planned for Michigan was canceled, concluding the season.

DeChambeau, 32, enters the week after a less-than-stellar T-38 finish at LIV New York and a challenging major championship season where he missed the cut in three out of four events.
