Brooklyn Bridge Fire During July Fourth Celebrations

During President Donald Trump’s speech at the National Mall, he praised the Brooklyn Bridge as “one of the greatest architectural feats of all time.” At the same time, New York City firefighters were battling a fire on the bridge caused by fireworks late Saturday night.

In a night marked by fireworks displays for America’s 250th birthday, a fire erupted on the Brooklyn Bridge during New York City’s July Fourth celebrations. Attendees witnessed flames and smoke billowing from the bridge before the fire was extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

The city’s fire department utilized two fire engines to douse the flames on the bridge, which was closed to traffic during the event.

The fireworks show was set to begin earlier due to concerns about severe weather, impacting other celebrations on the East Coast. In Washington, D.C., a storm caused the crowd to evacuate from the National Mall.

President Trump, coincidentally, praised the Brooklyn Bridge during his Salute to America 250 speech. He remarked on the bridge’s historical significance and related it to American flags and iconic figures.

Trump highlighted American figures such as Davy Crockett, Wyatt Earp, Annie Oakley, and Teddy Roosevelt, referencing their daring spirit as part of America’s heritage.

Trump also spoke about the first American flag flown over the Brooklyn Bridge, tying historical journeys like Lewis and Clark’s expedition to the flag’s symbolism.

Despite the brief fire on the Brooklyn Bridge, the July Fourth fireworks display over New York City was considered both spectacular and historic.
