Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has resigned after ongoing conflicts with War Secretary Pete Hegseth. These tensions within the Pentagon come amid the escalating U.S.-Iran situation, adding complexity to America’s military strategy and national security.
In response, President Donald Trump appointed Adam Telle as the acting Secretary of the Army. Telle previously served as Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works. His responsibilities included managing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works program, focusing on flood protection, commercial waterways, and permitting.
Telle’s background includes notable roles, such as Chief of Staff to Senator Bill Hagerty and liaison to the Senate during Trump’s first administration. His experience on the Senate Appropriations Committee enhances his capacity to navigate military appointments pending Senate confirmation.
The leadership change fills a crucial position in the Army’s hierarchy. Driscoll exited following disagreements over the Army’s readiness and transformation. He believed Hegseth was an obstacle to these efforts.
Despite the challenging tenure, Driscoll expressed gratitude for his service under Trump and Hegseth. He praised their collaborative efforts in advancing the Army, describing his time as serving the most lethal force globally as an honor.
