Texas Engineer Fatally Stabbed in Random Park Attack

A 62-year-old engineer from Texas, Andrew James Wimsatt, was fatally stabbed while sitting on a park bench in Round Rock, Texas. He had recently visited his mother at a nearby nursing home. Authorities described the attack as random. The suspect, 26-year-old Benedict Chinedu Ogbodiegwu, has been arrested and charged with murder and theft.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, the murder was captured by surveillance cameras. Wimsatt was sitting on a park bench around 11 a.m. when the suspect allegedly approached him from behind and repeatedly stabbed him in the neck. The victim struggled but was unable to fend off the attacker. After the attack, the suspect wiped the blood on his shirt and left the scene.

Ogbodiegwu, who has a history of criminal offenses, is being held on a $1 million bond. Prior to this incident, he had been released from jail in June after serving time for theft and carrying false identification.

Andrew Wimsatt was a well-respected civil engineer with a Ph.D., working part-time at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. Known for his friendly nature and generosity, he was a fan of numerous Fox News personalities with whom he had developed personal connections over time.

Fox News contributors Kat Timpf and Greg Gutfeld expressed shock and sorrow over Wimsatt’s death. They described him as supportive and kind, noting his tendency to share positive and encouraging messages. Timpf reflected on their friendship, mentioning frequent communication and shared experiences.

On the day of the murder, another park visitor found Wimsatt on the ground and alerted emergency services. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Investigators tracked the suspect through video footage and found evidence, including bloody clothing and the weapon. Despite the evidence, Ogbodiegwu claimed to have a twin brother when interrogated, but could not provide a name.

The suspect’s prior criminal record in Williamson County includes charges since 2017. Before the murder, he had two arrests earlier this year related to theft. His next court appearance is scheduled for Oct. 8.

Greg Gutfeld expressed his belief that those responsible for allowing the suspect’s release should face accountability for their actions. Wimsatt’s murder has left a significant impact on those who knew him, both personally and professionally.
