John Gotti’s grandson, Carmine Agnello, reported to federal prison after attempting to delay his sentence. He had planned to postpone imprisonment by donating a kidney to his mother, Victoria Gotti, who has chronic kidney disease. The Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed Agnello started his 15-month term at the Federal Correctional Institution Fairton in New Jersey.
Agnello, a former reality TV star on ‘Growing Up Gotti,’ was initially set to begin his sentence in July. However, Judge Nusrat Choudhury allowed a delay until September 18, anticipating recovery from the surgery, which Agnello suggested would happen by August 10. The surgery was not scheduled, and on Monday, Judge Choudhury ordered Agnello to surrender immediately, stating there was no evidence of an imminent transplant.
Agnello’s lawyer, Robert Beltrani, argued in court documents that Victoria Gotti faced infections that postponed surgery scheduling. He requested a delay for Agnello’s availability to his mother. Prosecutors countered that a medical report indicated doctors were identifying the cause of Gotti’s infections, preventing any potential transplant.
Prosecutor Joseph Nocella emphasized that the transplant surgery wasn’t imminent, citing ongoing medical issues faced by Victoria Gotti.
Agnello pled guilty to wire fraud in 2024, admitting he fraudulently received $1.1 million in loans intended for small businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic. He misrepresented his company’s operations and used some funds for a cryptocurrency investment.
Carmine Agnello gained fame as a teenager on ‘Growing up Gotti’. His grandfather, John Gotti, was known for his ability to evade criminal convictions and died in a Missouri prison in 2002. The New Jersey prison housing Agnello has hosted various notable inmates, including former Congressman George Santos.
